There is so much to say. Most important to you, extremely well written. One of your many talents. At the outset you said you gave it all up to marry. Certainly a mistake in my eyes but it is never to late as you are finding out. Something I have seen in several talented bright women when they are older.
I was not a close friend but in all sincerity I thought you were a kind and giving person.
Takes a lot to give up the material things and potential loneliness.
You are a survivor!!
